The painting competition once again provided plenty of eye candy at this year’s Hereward Wargames Show, with some seriously impressive work on display across the five categories. And with renowned miniature painter Richard Gray judging the competition, there was certainly no hiding place for a wonky paint job!
The competition covered Single Miniature, Unit or Squad, Monster or Vehicle, Display and Under 16, giving painters plenty of scope to show off their skills. Richard selected the finalists before choosing the winners in each category, with the overall Best in Show receiving the suitably imposing title of the BRAIN BITER award.
There was a particularly successful day for Lance Wilkinson, who took first place in both the Single Miniature and Unit categories. He went on to claim the biggest prize of all, with his Bramble Guardian winning Best in Show and the BRAIN BITER award.
The other category winners were Niamh Lowe, who won the Under 16 category, Lee Marshall, whose entry took the Monster/Vehicle category, and John Overy, winner of the Display category.
With Richard Gray bringing his considerable experience as a competition painter to the judging, the standard was high throughout. For visitors, the competition offered a chance to see some of the finest miniature painting at the show up close – and perhaps provide a little inspiration for the next time they pick up a paintbrush themselves.
