Or to give it its full title, “Aspern Essling, The First Day, 21st May 1809”. Peterborough Wargames Club will be running a major Napoleonic re-fight in miniature, with almost 2,500 20mm figures. The battle of Aspern-Essling will see Napoleon desperately trying to hold off the much larger Austrian army of Archduke Charles. As the collapsing pontoon bridges over the Danube to his rear stop the French reinforcements from joining the battle. Will he hold out, or will the Austrians drive him back to a humiliating defeat?
